PRP & Micro Needling

PRP

Age, hormones, environmental conditions and stress can all take a toll on our skin. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) cells are the body’s main line of defense in the repair and healing process. PRP has a long history of medicinal use related to tissue healing and regeneration. PRP cells are found within your bloodstream, which is where the viable cells are taken from.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) facials, also known as “Blood Facials,” are a non-invasive solution to make your skin look more youthful and healthy, all without the use of laser or injectable treatments. At a La Mode Medspa in Bakersfield, we use microneedling along with PRP facials to introduce PRP into the skin and promote the production of collagen. We will draw blood from you, isolate the PRP cells, and spin the blood in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma into a different container. We then administer it to your face with injections and microneedling.

Microneedling

Want to reduce the appearance of acne or other lines and scars? Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that treats various skin concerns, including sun damage, scars, and wrinkles, using collagen production. Microneedling is a dermaroller procedure that uses needles to prick the skin, generating new collagen and skin tissue, for a smoother and firmer appearance.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that works to reduce acne, acne scarring, trauma scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, and dull skin. It involves an electric skin needling device with 12 very fine needles, which is used to break down old scar tissue and facilitate skin cell generation. The needling device penetrates the upper layers of the skin to a depth of 2mm, creating very tiny needle wounds.

Microneedling is not suitable for anyone who has used Accutane within the last 3 months. People who are pregnant, have undergone skin radiation treatment within the past year, or those with open wounds, cuts, or abrasions, should also not receive microneedling. Tiny pinpoint-sized scabs will appear 24-72 hours after a microneedling treatment, which you should not itch, touch, or exfoliate. You should also avoid working out, hot showers, massages, and sun exposure for 48 hours following your procedure. We recommend treatment 3-6 sessions every 4-6 weeks.

PRP for Hair Growth

Concerned about hair loss? Statistics suggest that hair loss affects millions of men and women in our country. If you are one of them, chances are you are looking for a solution that will meet your needs. Enter PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy. Platelet-rich plasma is a nutrient-dense fluid present in the blood that stimulates cellular regeneration within microenvironments like the hair follicles, joints, and skin. Platelet-rich plasma has a long history of medicinal use related to tissue healing and regeneration, and has now made its way into the field of hair restoration.

The primary purpose of PRP treatment for hair loss is to stimulate activity in the hair follicles. This may prompt an active phase of hair growth in follicles that have become inactive. PRP injections into the scalp may also support the active phase of newly implanted hair follicles. Platelets contain a variety of growth factors, which work to form new blood vessels and regenerate cells.

PRP can be introduced into the hair follicles of the scalp using two methods. One is using microneedling, which creates micro wounds to superficial tissue and then PRP is applied topically where it can penetrate the scalp through the induced injuries. Another way is to inject PRP into the scalp in the area where hair is thinning. After drawing blood, the vial is processed in a centrifuge to spin the blood and separate platelets from red blood cells. Injections are then administered to the appropriate area of the scalp.

In most cases, there is zero downtime after PRP hair treatment. Because injections stimulate an inflammatory cascade through which tissue is repaired, patients are advised NOT to take any kind of anti-inflammatory medication to manage comfort. Most patients need a series of treatments for optimal results, and can begin noticing improvement within 2-3 months.
